the dentist

i let you
enter
the depths
of an intimate cavity,
reserved only for your pointed tools
and tender hands

i let you
explore
my uncharted lands:

searching, scraping, sculpting

bright lights blind
my eyes shut,
i am coaxed
into surrender:
i trust your gentle touch

and hear only the whirring
of metal,
feel the wetness
of cool water
splashing on my face

unexpectedly refreshing:
a happy accident

is it strange that i find
the light pricks
somewhat soothing
as i lay wide open;
exposed
as if
i am acutely acquainted
with the Pain that preludes Beauty
in her symphonic splendor

not yet lovers,
nor quite strangers,
have you found my secrets,
my indulgences?
my insecurities,
my weakness?

will you fill my cavities?

so it is,
our unspoken contract:
polishing, purifying;
pearls washed white as snow—
it is why

i let you
enter
the depths
of my intimate cavity,
reserved only for your pointed tools
and tender hands
